Let me tell you about the historical ‘ice skating rink’.

The Hollywood Royalty ‘Elizabeth Taylor’, not only well known as the most successful actress of all time but her jewellery collections are always getting the spotlight as well. She didn’t actually buy much of it, however. Instead, the men she dated, and sometimes married, just kept buying it for her.

The entire collection of Taylor’s jewellery went for auction at Christie’s on the 16th of December 2011. The final sale total came to an astonishing $156.8 millions.There are all the jaw dropping pieces but the one that flashed every media’s eyes is the ring she name ‘Ice Skating Rink’. Why? Because it looks just like an ice skating rink! We’re talking about a 33.19 carat Asscher cut diamond that Richard Burton bought for Elizabeth, the queen of Hollywood in 1968 at USD307,000. 

Liz wore her ice skating rink for the rest of her life. It was known as Krupp Diamond but renamed Elizabeth Taylor Diamond on her death in 2011. At the auction on the 16th of December 2011, it was the highest per-carat price ever for any colorless diamond at just over $265,000. The buyers were E-Land, a South Korean corporation.

Here are the specifics on the Krupp Diamond ring:

Center Stone: 33.19 carat, Asscher cut, D color, VS1 internally flawless diamond (Classified by the GIA as a chemically pure Type IIa diamond from the Golconda region of India sometime prior to 1909.) 
Accent Diamonds: Two baguette cut diamonds, one on either side of the center Krupp diamond. 
Metal: Platinum
Original Cost: $305,000 in 1968
Recently Sold: Sold in 2011 by Christie’s for $8,818,500. (Estimate was $2.5 – $3 million)
